About Owen


Owen EaganOwen Eagan is a kind, compassionate and caring person who has always dedicated himself to serving others. His family has deep roots in the West Hartford community spanning five generations, with his grandfather settling in town 70 years ago and his grandnephew arriving in town just this year.

Owen is a lifelong resident of West Hartford who attended St. Timothy’s grammar school, Northwest Catholic High School, Wesleyan University and the Georgetown University Law Center. He has been practicing law for 30 years and founded a law firm in West Hartford where he has been serving clients for the past 25 years.

Trying cases in numerous district probate courts throughout Connecticut from Norwich and New Britain to Hartford and West Hartford for the past 30 years, Owen has worked to resolve a variety of issues that affect Connecticut citizens from birth to death. For instance, Owen has handled adoptions, parenting issues and matters surrounding trusts and estates. He has worked to resolve cases like these hundreds of times.

Probate court is a trial court and Owen is both a probate lawyer and a trial lawyer. He has served in various trial courts throughout his career including the probate court, the Connecticut Superior Court, and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Owen currently serves as chairman of the Freedom of Information Commission for the State of Connecticut, being recently re-appointed for a second term by Governor Dannel P. Malloy. Owen has served on the commission since 2009, adjudicating public requests for access to government documents. For his service, Owen received the Bice Clemow award in 2015 as a champion of open and accountable government.

Throughout his life, Owen Eagan has dedicated himself to serving others and to serving the Town of West Hartford. From delivering copies of the Hartford Times in his neighborhood near what is now Hall High School and cutting lawns as a boy to coaching football, boy’s and girl’s basketball and soccer in West Hartford town leagues and to being elected Deputy Mayor of the town, Owen strives to give back to his community.

Owen is a loving husband to his wife Judy, and a proud father of his children, Caley, Maura and Owen and of his Schnoodle, Sophie.
